Van Gogh's Ear Gallery will salute its 10th anniversary with a party from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight during the 4th Friday Art Walk.

The gallery, located at 156B S. Montezuma on Prescott's iconic Whiskey Row, is housed in 3,500 square feet of the historical Sam Hill Hardware Store, which is a legend in its own right, especially among people who shopped its wares.

Van Gogh's Ear Gallery co-owner and glass artist John Lutes knows the building well. He worked as the manager of the former Heilig-Myers Furniture Store for 20 years after it became part of the old Sam Hill store building when the hardware store closed down. Then the furniture store shuttered, but Lutes stayed on in the same structure when he became a part of the art gallery that opened within those walls.

"I've been working in this building for 30 years," he said. Cody Carter, John and Linda Lutes' daughter and also an artist, a co-owner and the gallery's consultant, "grew up" visiting her father in the furniture store. Now, Carter's young daughter visits her within the same vintage structure.

Carter and her husband, Mark, also a partner, create the brightly painted hand-made shoes that the gallery sells.

Other gallery co-owners are Joanne Frerking and Christine Wallace.

Frerking, a monoprint/collage artist, recalls that "many of our original artists have been with us throughout our 10-year history. We hope to see many of them at our celebration on, because, without them and our other fine artists, we wouldn't still be here." And, she added, "We are so grateful to our many customers who have also become our dear friends for supporting us all these years."

Tonight's celebration will feature jazz music, hors d'oeuvres and wine. For more information, visit www.vgegallery.com.
